To celebrate the outstanding individual accomplishments of the players, here’s our 2023-24 Post-Star All-Area Boys Basketball Team, with information from their coaches:

Player of the Year

Kellen Driscoll, Sr., F, Glens Falls

Stats: 22.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists per game

Driscoll did a little of everything for Glens Falls this season on his way to earning his second Post-Star Player of the Year award in three months, as he was also the area’s top player in football.

The versatile 6-foot-3 forward was the MVP of the Foothills Council and led the team in all major categories. Head coach Rob Girard said Driscoll works as hard as any player he has coached. Driscoll led by example all season for the Black Bears as they finished undefeated at 27-0 and won the Class A state championship. Driscoll came up big in the state championship game and was dominant all season.

First Team

Semaj Cuyler, 8th, G, North Warren

Stats: 20.6 ppg, 4.8 apg, 3.9 steals per game.

Cuyler, a 6-2 combo guard, ran the point as an eighth-grader this season for the Class D state champion Cougars. He could handle the ball with the best of them and had the ability to pull up from outside or take tough shots inside. Cuyler was also dominant on defense, averaging about four steals a game. He was named to the All-Adirondack League first team.

2023-24 Post-Star All-Area Boys Basketball Team: That championship feeling (4)

Brody Holcomb, Jr., G, Glens Falls

Stats: 17.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.3 apg

Holcomb was the best pure shooter for Glens Falls this season, with the ability score from anywhere — and he is particularly lethal from beyond the 3-point arc, knocking down 72 treys for the Black Bears. Holcomb never backed down from a challenge all season and created problems for opponents with his ability to stretch defenses and drive to the basket.

2023-24 Post-Star All-Area Boys Basketball Team: That championship feeling (5)

Stevie Schloss, Sr., G, Warrensburg

Stats: 22.9 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 3 apg

Schloss, a 6-2 forward, was named the Adirondack League MVP this season. This season he became the all-time leading scorer in Warrensburg boys basketball history with 1,583 points. Schloss, who has committed to play basketball at Castleton next year, is a three-sport standout that coach Mike Perrone called the “ultimate competitor” for the Burghers.

2023-24 Post-Star All-Area Boys Basketball Team: That championship feeling (6)

Luke Sherman, Sr., F, Schuylerville

Stats: 24.3 ppg

Sherman, a versatile 6-1 senior who can play anywhere on the court, is an exceptional three-sport athlete who also excels in football and baseball. His athleticism on the basketball court allowed him to lead the area in scoring and become the Black Horses’ all-time leading scorer this season. He also moves well away from the ball, finds teammates with passes, rebounds well and plays solid on- and off-ball defense.

2023-24 Post-Star All-Area Boys Basketball Team: That championship feeling (7)

Derrick Tyrell, Sr., C, North Warren

Stats: 14.5 ppg, 14.2 rpg, 2.5 blocks per game

Tyrell was one of the most dominant big men in the area this season, causing problems for many Adirondack League teams and carrying it through the state tournament. The 6-5 senior averaged a double-double this season and ended his high school career as a Class D state champion. He leaves a huge void for the Cougars to fill inside.

Second Team Evan LaPell, Sr., G-F, Warrensburg

Stats: 11.9 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 3 apg

LaPell was dominant down low for the Burghers this season and also had the ability to take the big shot from mid-range or beyond the arc. The 6-1 senior was a first-team Adirondack all-star and is a three-sport standout for Warrensburg.

Oscar Lilac, Jr., G, Glens Falls

Stats: 13 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.3 apg

Lilac is the quarterback of the court for the state Class A champion Black Bears. He is quick to the hoop, an outstanding defender and a student of the game, controlling the tempo of Glens Falls’ fast-break offense. A Foothills Council all-star, Lilac loves to take the big shots for the Black Bears, and finished with 61 3-pointers this season.

Brandon Saunders, Sr., G, Argyle

Stats: 20.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.3 apg

Saunders, a 6-foot combo guard, was a true leader for the Scots on and off the court this season, with the ability to create shots from anywhere on the court with little space. Saunders spent a lot of time working with the underclassmen, and will leave a void in scoring and leadership.

Brady Smith, Soph., F, Hudson Falls

Stats: 16.1 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 2.9 apg.

Smith was the engine that drove the Tigers this season. He was asked to fill a much larger role for Hudson Falls this season and responded very well. The 6-6 forward was a premier rebounder and post defender in the Foothills Council.

Jack Welch, Jr., G-F, Lake George

Stats: 13.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg

Welch, a 6-1 senior, plays inside and outside for the Lakers, and was his team’s best rebounder this season. An outstanding three-sport athlete, he is a very difficult guard to cover and has strong post moves.
